Literacy Promotion

The Oscar Onai Foundation understands that one of the most crucial pillars of success in both school and life generally is literacy. The Foundation recognizes that literacy promotion enhances the achievement of SDG 4, which is the provision of high-quality education for all, especially for vulnerable groups including underprivileged children and pupils living in rural communities. Indeed, because it is an essential survival skill in a global society, the Foundation is especially interested in promoting young people’s literacy. Even though more kids are attending school than ever before, many of them are not mastering fundamental subjects like reading when they are enrolled. More so, young ones who are raised in underprivileged communities or in homes with low socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely to have poor early literacy development and drop out of school.

By fostering reading both within and outside of the classroom, our literacy promotion programme is assisting in changing this phenomenon. Our dream is for children to be able to learn to read and read to learn. The initiative does not only target kids; we also empower teachers and librarians to take an increased interest in literacy, with special emphasis on the organization of literacy promotion activities at schools and local libraries as well as the creation of materials that may be utilized to promote reading and literacy. Our programme is result-oriented. It ensures the continual improvement of functional literacy; abilities that support individuals’ and groups’ independence, curiosities, and lifelong learning in the direction of enhancing the cultural, social, and economic health of the communities in which they live.
